UAE Innovates 2024: A Catalyst for Creativity in Taxation

In alignment with ‘UAE Innovates 2024’, a month-long celebration of creativity, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has officially started accepting entries for its innovative Hackathon. This event is part of the FTA’s commitment to fostering a progressive tax system through technological innovation.

Fostering Innovation in Tax Administration

The FTA Hackathon is aimed at developing state-of-the-art technological solutions to tackle the challenges faced by the tax sector. This initiative is set to enhance collaboration among government bodies, educational institutions, and the private sector, creating a lasting positive impact.

Innovators are invited to bring forward their groundbreaking ideas that can address various challenges, such as increasing tax awareness, streamlining tax return processes for SMEs, and curbing tax evasion.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

Starting now, the FTA welcomes project submissions that will continue to be accepted until February 23. A special event to showcase these innovations will be held on February 29 at the Dubai Creative Hub – Emirates Towers, in partnership with SAP, the FTA’s ally in digital transformation.

Participants will have the chance to present their innovative projects and solutions, and the most outstanding contributions will be recognized. The top three solutions will be celebrated, opening the door to potential collaborations with the Federal Tax Authority.

His Excellency Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director General of the FTA, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: “Our activities throughout February are designed to bolster the FTA’s digital transformation strategy. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, we aim to create innovative solutions that will contribute to refining the UAE’s tax system.”

“The Hackathon is the perfect platform to nurture an innovation-centric atmosphere, inspire creators, and spotlight projects leveraging advanced technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and blockchain. These innovations contribute to a dynamic and proactive tax environment and help streamline tax processes, enhancing efficiency for the benefit of all stakeholders in the UAE,” added H.E. Al Bustani.

Targeting a Diverse Group of Innovators

The event seeks to attract a varied group of innovators, including developers, programmers, university students, entrepreneurs, and business owners, alongside government representatives and experts in tax policies and financial legislation. This diverse participation is aimed at contributing to the development of a clear legal framework for innovative tax solutions.

The FTA has established specific evaluation criteria for the Hackathon entries, focusing on creativity, innovation, data utilization, solution quality, feasibility, technological use, benefits, and potential impact. Contestants are expected to design a solution, develop a prototype, and present a comprehensive plan and detailed presentation.
